Twinkie the Kid to the Rescue

After being sick for the past four nights in a row, I gave in and filled my prescription for Phenergan. While waiting for my script to be filled, I decided to dive into some much needed grocery shopping. I'd first troll the inside isles, saving the produce/freezer items for last.

As my aisle shopping came to an end I headed on over to the produce and meat departments. Upon feasting my eyes on a huge spread of raw fish, beef and chicken my stomach started knocking on my mouth's door. My lunch had a change of heart and no longer wished to dwell inside my body.

I turned my cart around and headed for the bread isle...if anything could help me, carbs could! I ripped into a box of Twinkies and swallowed a cake in less than 5 seconds.

Crisis averted...or so I thought. Five minutes later, after my forehead had stopped sweating and my stomach was at ease, I revisited the produce section. The produce is next to the deli, where the whole chickens are. I whipped out Twinkie #2 and ate it as fast as the first one.

This time however, I had an audience. Customers and staff were gawking at me as if I was eating the Twinkie wearing nothing more than a pearl thong and wading boots. I wasn't sure if they thought I had an eating disorder or if they thought I was going to eat the entire box of Twinkies, place the box back on the shelf, and walk out of the store 5 pounds heavier than when I walked in?

Many people say 'Everything Happens for a Reason.' Usually I am not a big believer in this theory. However, thanks to this baby making me sick, I've found an amazing web site with lots and lots of delicious Twinkie recipes.

A couple other things to note about my shopping trip:
1. I spent 2 hours and over $200 in the store. Total meat items: 0
2. I bought items never purchased before: Nestle Quick, fish sticks, and Rolaids
3. I found out Twinkies come in 10-packs

It's wonderful that Hostess is so health conscious that it includes taco and sushi recipes too!

Twinkies are not the same as when we were kids. I will never forget all the birthdays with them at school (mom is NOT a baker). I'm not sure I could eat one right now though.

I checked out the site with the recipies and the chocolate smash up one made me have to leave the page LOL. I can't even bear to look at it, let alone eat it. :)

Grocery shopping has gotten expensive for me too - mainly because of all the stuff I have every intention of eating but can't once I actually get around to trying it.

Sorry for writing a novel...

Kate - I am doing the same thing - these random hunger cravings and I am a goner - so far I have indulged in chocolate dipped nutter butters and cream cheese wontons from Pick Up Stix - it is terrible -- but oh soooo good! - Maria
